How Much Does a Straight Stair Lift Cost in Michigan?

The short answer: with Senior Home Solutions, a straight stair lift costs $3,500 to $6,500 fully installed, depending on the length of your staircase. That price includes the lift, the rail, installation and a demonstration, and financing is available through Service Finance.

Below is what goes into that number, what can raise or lower it, and how to avoid paying for more lift than your staircase needs.

What Affects the Cost of a Straight Stair Lift?

Length of the staircase

The biggest factor. A longer flight needs a longer rail, which is most of the difference between $3,500 and $6,500.

Weight capacity

The straight lifts we install carry riders up to 300 lbs, which suits most people.

Seat and comfort options

Powered swivel seats, powered footrests and upgraded upholstery add to the price.

Obstructions at the bottom

If a doorway sits at the foot of the stairs, a folding rail keeps the walkway clear and adds cost.

Indoor or outdoor

Outdoor lifts are weather-sealed and priced higher.

Why a Straight Lift Costs Far Less Than a Curved One

The chair and motor are much the same on both. The difference is the rail.

A straight rail comes in standard lengths and is cut to fit your stairs on the day. A curved rail has to be measured, drawn and fabricated for one staircase only. That custom work is why a curved lift costs much more and takes weeks to arrive. We quote and install curved lifts too, so we can show you both options side by side.

Straight rail: standard, cut to fit, installed in hours

Curved rail: custom-built, 2–4 weeks, much higher cost

Our advice: use a straight lift whenever the staircase allows it

Stairs with a landing

Two Straight Stair Lifts vs. One Curved Lift

If your stairs have a flat landing between two straight flights, you have a choice. One custom curved lift can ride around the turn. Or two straight lifts can cover each flight, with a short walk or transfer across the landing.

For families where the rider can manage a few steps across the landing, two straight lifts can cost up to 50% less than a curved lift. Both are installed in a single visit, usually in about 7 to 8 hours, instead of waiting weeks for a custom rail.
